The BENEFICE CHOIR started early to prepare for the celebration of Christmas in 2016.   They were singing at two of the four Carol Services being held in the area.   As well as leading in the singing of the popular carols, they also sang three anthems:-   ‘The First Nowell’ arrangement by David Willcocks; ‘Away in a manger’ traditional words but to music composed by the Organist and Choirmaster, Chris Denman; ‘Jesus Child’ by John Rutter.

A TRADITIONAL SERVICE of Nine Lessons and Carols by candlelight was held in Norton Church, which was packed for the occasion and had readers drawn from local organisations.

Earlier in December A CHRISTINGLE SERVICE was held in Norton Church which supported the work of The Children’s’ Society.   Another full church hosted this moving Service.

Christmas Eve was the time for the CRIB SERVICE, which again saw a fairly full church.    During the month the figures of the Holy Family had travelled around the parish and now made their appearance in the church.   Children ‘constructed’ the crib scene and processed around the church with lighted candles.

CHRISTMAS DAY saw a Family Communion with all ages joining in the celebration of Christmas.

Christmas 2016 saw the arrival of a new Crib, crib figures and lighting with a purpose made base plus two carpeted steps to the Lectern.   These were all anonymously given by church well-wishers.
